Pros and Cons of Zone diet
Like any diet on the market there are pros and cons. After all you are changing
your eating habits and possibly altering your daily routine. Certain diet are
not for everyone, but if you want to lose weight and have your body performing
at optimum levels the Zone diet claims to be the diet for you.
Dr Sears, the founder of the Zone diet, which uses a block technique where
each meal must contain 40% carbohydrate calories, 30% protein calories and 30%
fat calories. This will drastically reduce the amount of carbs that most people
in western societies consume. Processed foods like white bread and candy bars
are generally avoided. Dr. Sears claims that as a species we are relatively
new to the evolutionary experience and that it takes thousands of years for
the human body to adapt to new types of food. Therefore the relatively new phenomenon
of trans fat and polysaturates are robbing us of our full potential.
But, just looking around, you notice thin people who seem to be able to eat
as much as they want without gaining a single pound. Dr. Sears mentions that
about 25% of the population can maintain a high carbohydrate diet, but as for
the other 75%, carbs can be a real hindrance. This dietary regime sounds good
for the 75%, but what about the 25%? Maybe if they can handle a high carb diet,
they actually need a high carb diet. In other words, the principle that a balance
between the macronutrients is needed is rock solid. Sticking at this exact ratio
could work well for some people, but there is concern that it doesn't take some
people's differences into account.
