Integral Yoga
Integral Yoga is a system of yoga that aims to achieve inner peace and harmony
within the individual. To paraphrase Sri Swami Satchidananda, one of the
founders of Integral Yoga, Integral Yoga is a scientific system which combines
various methods to develop all facets of the individual: physical, intellectual
and spiritual. Integral Yoga brings together multiple branches of Yoga in the
belief that each of these branches can bring its own special focus to help bring
the individual to completeness and harmony.
The different branches of Integral yoga are:
· Raja yoga: focuses on concentration, meditation and focus of the mind. It
leads to a state called samadhi, or “super consciousness.”
· Japa yoga: repetition of a mantra. A mantra is a sacred syllable or series
of syllables. The mantra is repeated in tune with the Divine Vibration. Japa
yoga is a component of Raja yoga.
· Hatha yoga: a series of postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and cleansing
practices that aim to detoxify and invigorate the body, soul and mind.
· Karma yoga: focuses on the path of selfless service and the transformation
to a conscious vehicle of the Higher Will.
· Bhakti yoga: focuses on the path of love and devotion to the Divine. This
branch of Integral yoga is a quest to transcend the boundaries of Personality
and instead connect with the Higher Self.
· Jnana yoga: focuses on the utilization of the intellect. Through self-analysis,
one breaks attachments to the material and physical and instead gains freedom
through connection with the Higher Self.
