Balneotherapy
Balneotherapy can best be described as healing by water. Balneotherapy uses
water to restore and revitalize the body by improving circulation and fortifying
the immune system. The effect of Balneotherapy is that it relieves pain and
stress.
Also known sometimes a Spa therapy, Balneotherapy involves bathing in thermal
or mineral water that is heated with hot springs, or other methods, to around
34 degrees centigrade. The hydrostatic forces of the water bring about pain
relief to various areas of the body by taking stress off the affected area.
The effect of Balneotherapy is also that it can improve joint motion.
Balneotherapy works in many different ways throughout the body. Some of the
ways that Balneotherapy benefits the body include the following:
- Balneotherapy gradually increases the temperature of the body, thus
killing harmful germs and viruses.
- Balneotherapy increases hydrostatic pressure on the body, thus increasing
blood circulation and cell oxygenation. The increase in blood flow also helps
dissolve and eliminate toxins from the body.
- Balneotherapy increases the flow of oxygen-rich blood throughout
the body, bringing improved nourishment to vital organs and tissues.
- Balneotherapy increases body metabolism, including stimulating the
secretions of the intestinal tract and the liver, aiding digestion.
- Repeated Balneotherapy (especially over 3- to 4- week period) can
help normalize the functions of the endocrine glands as well as the functioning
of the body's autonomic nervous system.
- During Balneotherapy minerals such as carbon dioxide, sulfur, calcium,
magnesium, and lithium are absorbed by the body and provide healing effects
to various body organs and system, such as stimulation of the immune system,
leading to enhanced immunity; physical and mental relaxation; the production
of endorphins; and normalized gland function.
- Mineral springs contain high amounts of negative ions, which can help promote
feelings of physical and psychological well-being.
- The direct application of mineralized thermal waters can have a therapeutic
effect on diseases of the skin, including psoriasis, dermatitis, and fungal
infections. Some mineral waters are also used to help the healing of wounds
and other skin injuries.
