What does the term “Roman bath” mean today?
Many spas today offer “Roman bath”—style facilities. What Roman bath means
exactly varies from spa to spa, but in general, expect to find some type of
facility, involving water and steam, inspired by one or more of the rooms available
in the ancient Roman bath houses. A Roman bath might be:
· A tub or pool large enough for several people, heated to 102 degrees farenheit
(just under 40 degrees Celsius)
· A whirlpool (a pool with a powerful, circular movement of water)
· A Jacuzzi (a specific type of whirlpool)
· An entire building, or cluster of rooms styled as a Roman bath, containing
any or all of the following: sauna, steam bath, whirlpool, fitness room, massage
tables, solarium, beauty studio
