What is Parsley Herb?
Parsley is a biennial herb, from the Rosaceae family of plants that is native
to Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. Parsley has a thin, white, spindle-shaped
root that produces an erect stem that can reach a height of slightly over 2
feet. There are numerous varieties of parsley, but they all belong to the Apiaceae
family, and are also known by the Latin name Petroselinum crispum. The leaf,
root, and fruit of Parsley have been used for centuries in folk medicine.
Although it is not commonly eaten in quantity, parsley herb is a good natural
source of nutrients including pro-vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, and C, as well
as iron and other minerals. Parsley also contains a volatile oil and flavonoids,
which are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The volatile oil relieves cramps
and flatulence, and is a strong uterine stimulant.
What are the benefits and uses of Parsley Herb?
Parsley has multiple uses, as the leaf, root and fruit are all used in herbal
medicine. Although each part is used to treat various conditions all together
they ca be used for the following:
- Aid digestion
- Act a diuretic
- Stimulate menstruation
- Help treat arthritis and rheumatism
- Cure flatulence
What is the right dosage of Parsley Herb to use?
Parsley is usually taken either as an extract (1-3 ml or 28-84 drops, in warm
water, 3 times a day) or as a capsule (2-3 capsules 3 times daily with a large
glass of water).
What are the side effects of Parsley Herb?
Some people may have an allergic reaction to parsley and should stop using
it if they develop a rash or swelling etc, after use. Also parsley has been
known to have a phototoxic effect in light skinned people.
