known as Guggula and Gugal), a shrub that grows in the northern parts of India,
Pakistan and Afghanistan, having the botanical name commiphora mukul. When burnt
Indian Bedellium emits a fragrant resin, which melts in the sun and forms a
milky suspension when stirred in water.
Indian Bedellium, from the family Burseraceae, has a smooth green or ash or
yellow coloured exfoliating bark and grows in hilly areas. Only the gum resin
is used medicinally, demonstrating a cholesterol-lowering ability that rivals
any other natural substance and anti-inflammatory properties.
