Destination spa
Most people know what a Spa is: It’s a place where we can relax and rejuvenate
from the crazy, restless place that we all live in and get the pampering we
all deserve. For many people a Spa symbolizes unity of body & soul, harmony
& balance, new energy and inspiration with positive energy. When these people
thin of a spa they place usually set in beautiful surroundings including lakes
and woodland, where people can book time to stay and recharge their batteries.
That is a true representation, however this type of Spa is specifically called
a destination Spa and it is a place where the focus exclusively on lifestyle
improvement, health enhancement, and self-renewal in the company of like-minded
people.
So who goes to a destination Spa? Well, unsurprisingly, its usually women who
frequent the destination Spa, but surprisingly there are many different types
who go, ranging from executives who need to recharge to women who come with
friends; and there is more than enough activities to keep them all occupied.
What makes the destination Spa different from other forms of health resorts
is that they are geared solely for the promotion of a healthier lifestyle, and
they have accommodation too. Looking down the list of activities available it
is easy to see just why stay spas are becoming increasingly popular.
Gone are the days of just having a massage, now it’s all about what type you
need. Want to feel tranquil have a Swedish massage, need to relieve tension
and muscle pain try as Sports massage. Stress-relief, aromatherapy, hot stone
and foot & scalp finish off the large list of massages, each with their own
individual and distinct benefits. It’s a comprehensive list, but just the tip
of the spa iceberg of health options.
A feature of the destination Spa is the ability to put together a package of
health ‘products’ where each package can be tailored to a persons individual
needs or preference. Feeling tight in the shoulders and drained of energy, then
why not get a Swedish massage, facial and tanning session all in one package.
So with massage, facials, tanning, body treatments (including the delightfully
sounding honey-butter salt glow) and wraps you’d think that the people who run
these spa have pretty well covered all there bases, well not really…
Besides the usual massage and other body purifying options, destination Spa
also offer fitness facilities to get you, and keep you, in shape and events
that cater for the spiritual side of a person’s well being; yoga, tai-chi etc.
So with all the programs to help reinvigorate and motivate any prospective
stay spa visitor it is not surprising to find the destination Spa being the
place of choice for most people to start their healthy lifestyle changes.
As already explained the main difference with a destination Spa, as opposed
to just a normal, or day spa, is that it offers accommodation and different
types of health packages. Generally people can stay for as long as they wish
and prices, and facility use, can depend on the length of stay.
For a short weekend, around 2 days, the price per person for a reasonable to
good destination Spa can set you back around $365. A long weekend can cost as
much as $460 and staying for 5 days in the mid week can climb to $700 per person.
As you can tell these prices are not cheap and you should be willingly to shop
around to get the best deal as some destination Spas offer group discounts and
other incentives and packages such as a ‘boy’ package where a group of up to
five can stay in a cabin in the woods, or a romantic weekend for two.
Another major feature of the destination Spa is its migration from general
relaxation to its current trend of specific types of spas including golf spas
to attract more men, Beach spas, Luxury spas, medical spas and also niche areas
such as mother and daughter and honeymoon. It all signals a type of spa practicality,
a sense that in order for the market to expand and encourage people to spend
their well earned money, it has to offer more than just stress relief.
