What is the Zone Diet
The Zone diet is that popular diet created by doctor Barry Sears. Dr. Sears
promotes an even distribution of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. He has created
a ratio of 40-30-30 that can be used as a guide for anyone hoping to lose weight
and stay healthy. By carefully consuming your calories spread out at 40% carbohydrates,
30% fat and 30% protein anyone can achieve a healthier more natural diet. With
this delicate balance the dieter can then maintain the body’s insulin levels,
blood sugar levels, while at the same time reducing glycosylated hemoglobin
and triglyceride levels. It is imbalance in these levels that can lead to problems
such as obesity and diabetes.
While you might not have to change the food you eat there are carbohydrates
that are considered ‘favorable’ foods such as most vegetables and lentils, beans,
whole grains, and most fruits. Eat a smaller amount of carbs if you have chosen
"unfavorable" carbs like brown rice, pasta, papaya, mango, banana, dry breakfast
cereal, bread, bagel, tortilla, carrots, and all fruit juices.
If done properly the diet claims it will incur the following benefits:
- More energy
- Less irritability
- Weight Loss
- Not feeling hungry
- Less moodiness
- Mentally clear
- Lower cholesterol
- Lower blood pressure
