The Six Meals a Day Diet and Blood Sugar
Glucose, also sometimes called “blood sugar,” is what your body uses for energy.
Your body’s goal is always to maintain a constant blood/glucose (blood sugar)
level. Your body achieves this goal with the help of a hormone called insulin.
The more you eat, the more likely you are to keep your blood sugar and insulin
levels at normal, steady levels. When insulin levels increase, fat storage starts,
blood sugar lowers and energy levels drop drastically. Blood sugar and insulin
imbalances are often responsible for the energy “highs and lows” many of us
suffer throughout the day. Eating more often allows your blood sugar to remain
closer to constant and keeps your insulin down. For this reason, patients with
hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) are often put on six meals a day diet programs.
