Chakra
Chakra (meaning spinning wheel) is a Sanskrit (ancient Indic language that
is the language of Hinduism) term denoting one of seven major energy centers
situated along the spine, plus scores of minor centers throughout the body.
There are seven energy vortices within the body and these chakras are spirals
of energy, each one relating to the others. The chakras correspond approximately
to the nerve junctions where nerves from every part of the body join the spinal
cord and each has a name, colour and meaning associated with it.
Colours, like the sounds associated with each chakra, are another manifestation
of the seven planes associated with this Chakra system. They are a key to understanding
of self and environment, and another tool for the conscious manipulation of
our own energies. They can be used in visualization for self-healing and for
projecting outward what we want to manifest around us, by looking at a persons
aura.
Many Indian and Chinese modalities, especially acupuncture, focus on re-establishing
the free flow of energy throughout the chakras.
The seven Chakras are the:
- Root
- Sacral
- Solar Plexus
- Heart
- Throat
- Brow
- Crown
Each of these chakras is discussed in detail in the links on the right side
of the screen.
