Detoxification
Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body, neutralizing
them or transforming them. Detoxification clears excess mucus and relieves congestion.
Most of the toxins, that detoxification removes, come from our diet, drug use,
and environmental exposure. Internally, fats (most importantly oxidized fats),
cholesterol, free radicals, and other irritating molecules act as toxins. Problems
ranging from poor digestion, colon sluggishness and dysfunction to reduced liver
function, and poor elimination through the kidneys all add to increased toxicity
inside the body.
Detoxification in its essence involves dietary and lifestyle changes that lead
to a reduction in the intake of toxins and an improvement in their elimination
from the body.
Drinking lots of water, purified being the best form, and increasing fiber
intake (by including more fruits and vegetables in the diet) are basic steps
in any detoxification process. Eating a less congested diet and avoidance of
chemicals, refined food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and many drugs also
helps to minimize the toxin load in our bodily systems.
There are many reasons why, as humans, we detoxify our bodies. Most of the
reasons for detoxification are due to health, vitality, and rejuvenation, but
these are just some of the more basic reasons. Other reasons include treatment
of disease and prevention of further problems. A detoxification program is ideal
for helping us to re-evaluate our lives, to make changes, or to clear abuses
or addictions.
Detoxification can also be helpful for people who are trying to loose weight.
Although not the main way to reduce weight, detoxification can help people start
a transition to a healthier lifestyle.
Detoxification may help to rid the body of toxins, but the side effect is normally
a feeling of wellness and increased vitality. To the right of the screen is
a complete list of the reasons why we use detoxification and also some of the
benefits in behaviour/mood that detoxification can bring about.
